Drawing inspiration from the LIV Golf concept, the Nations Cup aimed to showcase the diverse international membership of the Club. The brainchild behind the Nations Cup was Vice-Captain Mel Choo, who until recently oversaw the Club’s Tournaments and Competitions. The tournament was meticulously organised by a dedicated group of members, who sought support and sponsorship from fellow members. Each year, the committee strives to make the tournament bigger and better.
The golf event was a celebration of TMCC’s multicultural membership and the universal appeal of golf. It aimed to bring together members from different countries and backgrounds through their shared love for the sport, fostering camaraderie and promoting international friendship. While national pride was evident, the main focus was on building a sense of unity and fun within the international community.
Participants in the Nations Cup proudly displayed their national colours and flags, with some even sporting face tattoos featuring their country’s symbols. The event saw a vibrant turnout of 132 players across 33 flights, creating a kaleidoscope of colours on the Garden course. Despite challenging playing conditions, the players showcased their best skills.
Team names like Oo Yiah Boh, Team Singkorean, World Class and Team Alpha Golf added a universal flavour to the event. In a close competition using a Double Peoria Stableford format, Team Oo Yiah Boh emerged victorious by just one point with contributions from Ken Sugino, Richard Chua, Ivan Quek and Gary Tang.
The Novelty Events winners were Yeon Jin Hee, Vanessa Song, Lau Wing Cheok, Thio Wei Kai, Ramadas Naidu, Peter Monson and Daniel Ang.
The top three Lucky Draw prize winners, who claimed SICC Bukit complimentary flight vouchers, were Sara Lew, Chia Kim Huat and Tang Tuck Soon.
For entertainment during the delectable international buffet dinner, the popular duo of Terry and Robyn serenaded the crowd with their sweet music. Caroline Ong joined Terry & Robyn for a song and the latter two repaid Caroline with the rendition of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline”
The Club acknowledged the generosity of sponsors Wayne Goh, Nico Mo, Mel Choo, The Cocoa Trees, Asian Pacific Breweries, Pernod Ricard Singapore, Zappy, HospiCare and LUXASIA.
