If you believed that the Guns came out with guns blazing, you would be mistaken. Indeed, the Guns secured their fifth victory in seven editions (with one match ending in a tie) against the Roses during this annual game, yet this achievement was merely a footnote in the records.
The essence of this yearly event revolved more around fun, laughter, camaraderie, and friendship than the eventual result.
Everyone celebrated Jenny Yang’s impressive Nearest to Pin performance, Yoko Tai’s remarkable longest drive for the ladies, and Xiu Xuwen’s precision and distance for the Nearest The Line challenge.
The annual match at the Garden Course on August 18 was filled with such delightful moments that it transformed into a beautiful and unforgettable evening for all 84 participants.
Without a doubt, Scotsmen Elliott Gray and Brodie MacDonald, along with “Mr Evergreen” John Ng, added a touch of professionalism to the event with their outstanding shots.
After 13 matches, the score was level. However it was the Guns who finished stronger of the two teams, triumphing 12.5 to 8.5.
The format featuring two men against two ladies from different tees created an engaging atmosphere and resulted in some closely contested matches that went the distance.
As one participant remarked: “It was an enjoyable occasion, nice format, fun to play with lots of good bonding. The conditions of the greens were superb. Sportsmanship prevailed in an event that also encouraged everyone to give their best.”
The sunny day, complemented by minimal cloud cover and a gentle breeze that occasionally provided relief from the heat, created an ideal setting for the game. Upon their arrival, each lady was presented with a rose, a gesture which was well appreciated.
Crystal Low (Ladies’ Sub Committee Member) assisted with the Men’s Novelty Prizes, while Florence Chia (Ladies’ Sub Committee Member) took charge of the Ladies Novelty prizes.
With no official Team Captains for the event, for the trophy handover, former Captain Lee Lian Hong represented the Guns and former Lady Captain Gillian Sim for the Roses.
The inaugural event took place in 2017, and last year’s competition concluded in a tie.
