Inclement weather hampered the proceedings at the Medal of Medals strokeplay competition at the Tampines course on a wet Sunday on Jan 7.
But the nerves of the 28 participants (nine ladies and 19 men) was tested on a rainy day but with no lightning interruption.
While a few golfers decided to call it an interrupted day, many passionate entrants played through not discouraged by the wet conditions.
The morning’s social game was abandoned and a few of the greens had surface water at midday, but the marshals did a tremendous job in clearing the water mainly on some greens to allow some interesting play.
Like the golfers, the marshals’ nerves and patience were also tested, and to be fair they came away with flying colours.
It was a measure of their ability and knowledge to handle such difficult situations that proved decisive for the club with trained personnel.
From moderate to heavy showers earlier in the day to rain the whole afternoon, play had to go on as there was no lightning presence.
An “go on” was the call among many players from 1 pm, although a few stopped after nine holes.
However, competition was keen and although there was no prize presentation on the day, bragging rights went to the winners.
Bryan Koh (course handicap 10) took the men’s honours with 67 net while Vicky Chong (course handicap 14) excelled among the ladies with 72 net.
Others to note were: men’s runner-up Stanley Ang (10) 76 net, Don Tan (10) best gross; ladies’ runner-up Jasmine Chew (10) 74 net and Meylinda Setyo (9) best gross.
Winners will receive their prize awards at the Champions Dinner annual prize presentation in November.
