Great Golf and Soothing Guzheng Music Elevate the Chairman’s Prize Competition

A significant feature of the Chairman’s Prize competition on June 27 at the Tampines course was the music from a guzheng instrument.

So, tradition paved the way for Ms Enya Tan to perform with the Chinese plucked zither with a history spanning 2,500 years.

The guzheng typically features 21 strings stretched across an oblong wooden soundboard and is played using plectra worn on the fingers of both hands. Its ethereal, cascading melodies created a serene atmosphere, allowing golfers to unwind and savour the music after a demanding day on the course.

Titled ‘The Fragrance of Jasmine‘, Enya’s performance captivated the audience and drew warm, enthusiastic applause for her showing that is also her hobby.

To acknowledge her display, Lady Captain Wendy Soh arranged a lovely bouquet of flowers for Enya which was presented to her by Chairman Niam Chiang Meng.

Among other dinner highlights was the live music by Terry and Robyn as the diners tugged into the BBQ dinner at the Tampines Terrace as the beer flowed.

A total of 132 golfers in 13 flights competed in a four-ball stableford format which brought about some good scores.

Bryan Koh and Stanley Ang claimed the top prize with 46 points on countback from Mel Choo and Calvin Goh.

Third were Joseph Chen and Lee Hsin Chong (46 pts), followed by Dr Goh Hoon Pur/Anthony Mo (44 pts ocb) and David Soh/John Baey (44pts)

Nearest to Pin prizes went to Loh Chang Kaan, Nitin Ahuja, Mel Choo and Nicholas Tong (Men), and Gillian Sim, Melissa Sim and Jessica Lee (Women).

Lucky draw prizes were drawn by Vice President Sng Seow Wah, Treasurer Toh Ai Ling and General Committee member Sirikit Oh.
