Guns and Roses share honours after historic tie

For the first time, the TMCC Guns and Roses Matchplay Series ended in an exciting tie.

In a move away from the normal sudden-death play-off or advantage for defending champions, the two team captains – non-playing Lady Captain, Gillian Sim and General Committee Member Melvin Choo — agreed pre-match that in case of a tie, so would it remain.

Premonition or otherwise, the eventuality was as agreed, and that 7-7 tie brought about smiles and cheers for the participants. The format of play was two men versus two ladies over 14 matches and on a pleasant overcast afternoon with a light wind on 19 November 2023 at the Tampines course.

56 players enjoyed the occasion with fun and good camaraderie. The ladies, dressed in white and pink, received a rose each on arrival to lift their spirits and, ironically, no match was halved although the tie was halved. The men wore blue shirts and black pants.

At the prize presentation, Melvin Choo and Lynette Yeo jointly lifted the trophy.
