Ladies’ ‘Gallop and Golf’ event mixes competition and fun for 47 golfers

Low hits high with an ace and “Lucky 8th” prize

It is often said in golf that a for a hole-in-one, one needs an element of luck added to the skill factor.

Crystal Low would attest to that after having achieved an ace in the Ladies’ Social “Gallop and Golf” event at the Garden course on May 21.

Using a 6-utility hybrid on the par-three Hole 2, she hit a perfect shot that veered its way into the hole.

And as it to emphasise the “luck” factor, Crystal was among four golfers in the “Lucky 8th” team, with Shan Eva Chu, Boo Geok Ching and daughter Eshay Tan for the Texas Scramble Team Event.

For the Texas Scramble event, each player must contribute three drives and the nominated captain decides which drive to take for each hole.

In this particular case for Hole 2, the captain had no effort in deciding on the drive after Crystal’s perfect shot.

On a hot and sunny morning session, 12 flights (47 players) teed off and Team 4 finished champions after Petra Jarosoliva, Sue Yap, Sarah Wang Xin and Shee Foong Ling bagged 71 points.

The quartet edged out Team 5, comprising Meylinda Setyo, Norlia Embong, Cheah Sheau Lan and Margaret Soh on countback while Team 10 (Baek Seung Hwa, Shin Dong Sun, Lee Kyung Sun and Byun Young Kyung) finished second runners-up also on 71 points.

The South Korean foursome of Baek, Shin, Lee and Byun, won the Brest Dressed Team award, with Sara Lew, Wendy Soh, Jess Beh and Monica Smith clinching the first runners-up spot.

The omnipresent Norlia Embong, a familiar face at competitions at several clubs, won the Best Dressed (individual) award.

Norlia also won the Nearest to the Pin prize on Hole 17 while Meylinda Setyo claimed the Longest Drive prize on Hole 15.

During registration, each player was asked to predict the winning team, Sue Yap was the only one to correctly predict the winners (Team 4).

There were a whole slate of prizes (16 for the Lucky Draw) from massage chair to travel organizer, purifiers, F&B vouchers, Adidas and Footjoy bags.

Standard Chartered Bank were very generous with their sponsorship and the golfers were appreciative of Nina Um’s hosting of fun party games.

And lunch was a delectable choice meal of Grilled Pacific Dory, Oven Baked Chicken Thigh or Spaghetti with Tomato Concasse, laced with an Acai Bowl experience.
