As the world focuses on increasing sustainability and the urgent need to address climate change, many industries are shifting toward greener solutions—and the golf industry is no exception.
Traditionally known for its resource-intensive operations, golf courses around the world are now adopting innovative strategies to reduce their environmental impact. At Tanah Merah Country Club (TMCC), the Garden Course is setting a new standard by installing a solar power system, marking a major step in the Club’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
This bold move is not just about reducing energy costs; it’s about demonstrating that prestigious golf and country clubs can go hand-in-hand with environmental responsibility. With the solar installation well underway, TMCC is setting the standard for golf courses in the region and reinforcing its status as one of the leaders in sustainable development.
The Garden Course solar project, which officially kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony on 4 July 2024, represents a significant milestone in the Club’s sustainability journey. In collaboration with TotalEnergies ENEOS, the solar installation will generate renewable energy to power the golf course and clubhouse, helping to reduce TMCC’s reliance on traditional energy sources and cutting down on its carbon footprint.
With the project now ahead of schedule, TMCC is on track to complete the installation well before the original target of February 2025, ensuring that the Garden Course will be running on clean, renewable energy far sooner than expected.

Next Steps:
- Grid Connection Phase: With installation well underway, the next steps include connecting the solar system to the local power grid. This integration will allow the energy generated by the solar panels to be distributed throughout the Club’s facilities.
- Final Commissioning: Full solar panel ystem commissioning is scheduled for the end of December 2024, with the Garden Course poised to begin benefiting from clean, renewable solar energy. Diligent efforts are being made to expedite the process, aiming to complete the work ahead of the original projected completion date in February 2025.
The environmental benefits of this solar installation are substantial. Once the system is up and running, it will reduce TMCC’s carbon emissions by approximately 1,317 tonnes of CO2 annually—equivalent to planting over 65,500 trees. This aligns perfectly with the Club’s long-standing commitment to sustainability, which includes efforts to conserve water, reduce chemical use, and preserve local biodiversity.
TMCC’s solar project is just one part of its broader ESG strategy to make its courses as sustainable as possible. The recent GEO Certified® accreditation of both the Garden and Tampines courses already showcases the Club’s leadership in environmental responsibility, and the solar installation further enhances that reputation.
For TMCC, this solar project is not just an energy solution; it’s a statement that sustainability is at the heart of the Club’s operations. By adopting renewable energy, the Club is reducing its environmental impact, cutting costs, and ensuring that the Garden Course remains a premier golf destination for generations to come.
