Ong edges out 12-year-old Ryusei on countback

Sentimentalists would have preferred a different finish.

For in contention was a 12-year-old in Ryusei Kuroiwa who staged a formidable fight to the finish.

But you cannot take anything away from the winner Desmond Ong, who played a steady round of net three-over 75.

With a course handicap of 20, Ong held his nerves to win the Medal of Medals event at the challenging Tampines course on Jan 5.

Ryusei, playing off a course handicap of 3, also shot net 75 but finished runner-up, losing on countback with an inferior back nine.

Lim Chiang Wei, with a course handicap of 4, shot 81 for the gross honours.

On a hot day with light winds around 14km/h providing some cool, in the women’s event Vicky Chong defended her title with net 73.

She finished by just one stroke better than Huang Lizhu.

Ladies best gross honours went to Meylinda Setyo.

There was no prize presentation on the day as winners will receive their awards during the 2025 Champions Dinner and Annual Prize Presentation on Sunday, 26 October 2025.
