He wins by two shots, Karen follows suit in Ladies

Samir stamps his mark in Club’s Stroke Play Championship

Rain, lightning, shifting winds and humidity coupled with occasional cool breeze.

The 55 participants (38 men and 17 ladies) of the Tanah Merah Country Club’s Stroke Play Championship had to contend with the elements for the three days of competition.

The individual accolades aside, the carrot for competing was that all winners are to be invite for the Champions’ Dinner – the annual prize presentation on October 27.

Pride of place went to the battle-hardened, multi-crowned Samir Bedi.

Samir stamped his class from day one (delayed for over one hour because of inclement weather) at the Garden Course when he shot an even-par 71 on September 15 to take a one-shot lead over Fang Jia Wei, while Lim Chiang Wei 3 strokes back.

Then on September 21 and 22, Samir shot rounds of one-over 73 and 78 at the Tampines course to take the honours.

His impressive seven-over 222 gave him the Men’s Championship, ahead of Lim Chiang Wei (224) and Masaru Hamada (227).

In the Ladies’ Club Championship, Karen Yap beat Nina Um by two shots for the crown.

Yap broke away in the second round with an 88 at the Tampines course, adding to her 88 the previous week at the Garden.

She shot 97 on day three at Tampines for a 273 total, as Nina finished runner-up with 275 (88-94-93).
