Talk about a high pitch, perfect octave and a classical voice. Soprano singer Yeon Jin Hee belted out an amazing combination to rapturous applause.
In fact, she brought the house down with a rendition of “You Raise Me Up” that the audience stood up in salute for her beautiful singing.
And, in fact, the 100-over diners asked for an encore and she obliged with the famed Luciano Pavarotti’s “O Solo Mio”.
In the end, both songs were dedicated to Niam Chiang Meng – a fitting introduction for the Club’s new Chairman.
Mr Niam reciprocated by presenting a bouquet of flowers – arranged by Lady Captain Wendy Soh – to thank the fabulous singer.
The golf event was especially eventful and significant to Mr Niam who took over the chairmanship from Mr Ng Kee Choe.
That was not the only highlight at The Chairman’s Prize golf event on June 29 at the championship Tampines course on a perfect, windy day.
For earlier, Bryan Koh and Stanley Ang cruised to the title in the four-ball stableford competition with a scintillating 51 points.
The pair finished a massive seven seven points ahead of runners-up Nico Mo and Wayne Goh who won on countback from three other partnerships.
David Soh and former national badminton star Lau Wing Cheok were third, followed by Calvin Sim/Wynnie Sim and Jeremy Tay/Raymond Cheng in a field of 108 golfers.
The barbecue live stations opened to the strains of Terry and Robyn, who set the merry mood with their classy songs and music. The free flow of beer helped to keep the diners in the mood, especially during the prize presentations – both novelty and lucky draw.
Julian Lim, Sarah Wang, Philip Heng, Lee Eet Fong (twice), Nick Yeow (twice) and Sachie Hosokawa won the Nearest The Pin prizes. And the top four lucky draw prizes (from a total of 18) of a Orchid Country Club golf voucher for four golfers went to George Madhavan, Sim Kim Pun, Nina Um and Marcus Loh.
