When golfers are met with inclement weather – at the start or middle of the game – usually frustration and disappointment become evident on the faces of the players.
Fingers are kept crossed, hoping for a change of fortune.
Such was the case on June 28 when 128 participants for the club’s Chairman’s Prize event kept looking skywards and onto their mobile phones for weather checks.
Lightning warning from 12:00pm to 3:10pm and rain for a couple of hours disrupted prevented play as the golfers engaged in banter and conversation at the Tampines cafeteria Restaurant and lounges Terrace.
Eventually, their prayers were answered for at 3.20pm the shotgun start event began with the knowledge that no way were they going to finish the 18-hole game.
The golfers were happy that they could step onto the fabulous course despite knowing that the competition was off and it would be a nine-hole social game.
Happier still were they when it was announced that all prizes would be moved to the Lucky Draw segment.
The dinner opened at 6.45pm with Terry and Robyn providing soothing music for the first set.
Teenage violinist Ellie Layson performed a classical piece (Zigeunerweisen by Pablo De Sarasate) which received loud applause. Ellie followed this with a rendition of Elvis Presley’s popular number “Can’t help falling in love” accompanied by Terry & Robyn and accompanying singing across the tables.
Lady captain Wendy Soh arranged a lovely bouquet flowers, which Chairman Niam Chiang Meng presented to Ellie as a token of appreciation.
Terry and Robyn returned to belt their superlative numbers, accompanied by their array of musical instruments.
Chairman Niam Chiang Meng presented the top five of the 35 lucky draw prizes for the event with Tan Yizchong claiming the top prize of a 4-ball voucher at Aquella Golf & Country Club.
Other main lucky draw prize winners were: #2 Jenny Sim (4-ball voucher, Aquella Golf & Country Club), #3 Alan Zhang (Callaway Golf Bag), #4 Seah Zong Xuan (Callaway Golf Bag) and #5 Lawrence Thong (Odyssey Putter).
