Climate change, receding shorelines, earth heating.

These are concerns that have provided upheavals in Mother Nature’s “well-beings” and have called for meetings, forums and panel discussions on how to address the deteriorating state of affairs in the earth’s overall health.

Stemming from these are topics such as renewable energy, sustainability, preserving biodiversity and adopting green practices.

In these aspects, Tanah Merah Country Club wants to stay on top of the situation and have introduced practices and new steps to keep a green environment foremost in the minds of its management and members.

So after having impressed with the introductions of solar panel installations in its Tampines venue, it has successfully completed the installation of similar panels at its Garden clubhouse.

This is ahead of schedule, and now fully commissioned and operational from 23 December 2024. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on 14 January this year.

As the Club President says: “The completion of the solar panel installation at Garden Clubhouse is a pivotal step in our commitment to combating climate change and supporting Singapore’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. This project is a crucial part of our broader ESG strategy at TMCC, reflecting our ongoing efforts to integrate sustainable practices into our operations. It also demonstrates our dedication to environmental stewardship for future generations, further solidifying our position as a leading golf and country club in environmental responsibility in the region. In addition, our partnership with TotalEnergies ENEOS has been a rewarding experience. Their efficient approach, timely updates, and ability to deliver ahead of schedule were impressive. We look forward to further sustainable initiatives for our community.

This milestone marks a significant achievement in the Club’s ongoing commitment to pioneering Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) efforts. By harnessing renewable energy, the solar panels will help reduce our carbon footprint and support the club’s financial sustainability, all while ensuring TMCC remains a premier golf and country club.

The solar system, made up of over 3,700 solar modules, will generate around 3,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually, resulting in significant cost savings for the Club and reduce TMCC’s carbon footprint by approximately 1,300 tonnes of CO2 each year, equivalent to planting over 20,000 trees.

TMCC invites members to celebrate this remarkable achievement as it continues to lead with innovative and sustainable practices.

The installation was done through the partnership with TotalEnergies ENEOS. Under the condition of a long-term purchase agreement, TotalEnergies ENEOS will fully fund, install, and operate the PV (photovoltaic) solar system.

TMCC will benefit from the tailor-made solar solution by paying only for the electricity generated over the next 11 years with no upfront costs.

The successful installation of a 2.2 MWp ground-mounted solar PV system was celebrated with distinguished guests, including Christopher Chiu, TMCC Vice President, SK Ramadas Naidu, TMCC Convenor of the House Recreation Committee, Antoine Delafargue, VP Solar Distributed Generation at TotalEnergies, and Alexandru Buzatu, Director of TotalEnergies ENEOS Renewables Distributed Generation Asia Pacific.
