TMCC trio puts club in spotlight with great showing in women’s senior championships

Age is just a number when it comes to playing golf.

This popular adage proved real when three Tanah Merah Country Club women players, Wendy Lim, Norlia Embong and Jasmine Chew, featured strongly in the 34th Singapore Open Senior Amateur Championship from Oct 22 to 25.

The venue at Warren Golf and Country Club was ablaze with senior impact when men and women with graceful experience but armed with loads of skill and energy crossed swords with a zest seen in younger golfers.

The women’s event put TMCC in the spotlight when Wendy, Norlia and Jasmine raised their games to etch their names in the records books.

No doubt, the consistent Sembawang Country Club golfer, Emily Lee, in her colourful attire, was a deserving winner with rounds of 82-82-81 for an impressive 245 total.

But the smart-dressed Wendy gave her a strong fight before falling behind by two shots with scores of 81-79-87.

Norlia Embong, the competitive and always-focused player from TMCC who had featured in

many previous title-winning showings, finished third with rounds of 86-82-85.

TMCC also made great impact in the team event when Norlia and Jasmine grabbed the top spot in the team event.

The TMCC showings underlined the club’s active support in pushing women’s and senior golf

beyond boundaries through easier access to playing facilities.

The men’s overall division winner was Stewart Lee Beck with a 221 total with rounds of 74-71-76.

He finished ahead of John Mckean (80-71-76) and third-placed Douglas Williams (72-80-76).
