The three-peat, or more commonly known as “hat-trick” seemed vanishing into thin air.
Or rather into the strong winds of between 15 and 30 kilometres per hour on a warm day on Jan 4.
But no. In challenging conditions with shifting winds, Vicky Chong (course handicap 13) composed herself, kept the focus, and played a very respectful back nine to claim the title.
She shot a strong plus-5 on the way in in the club’s Medal of Medals at the well-set-up Tampines course to claim the women’s title.
Vicky shot a net 76 to finish ahead of Loh Kah Ing (course handicap 26) who scored 79 and claimed runner-up spot on countback.
Meylinda Setyo (course handicap 9) returned the best gross of 17-over 89 among the 12 participants.
Xavier Tay (course handicap 14) won the men’s net with 72, ahead of Koh Choon.
Former national badminton champion Lau Wing Cheok (course handicap 9) returned the best gross score of 83 among the 12 players.
There was no prize presentation as the winners will be accorded recognition on Oct 4 at the annual Champions Dinner.
