Chiu and Choo are quite similar in pronunciation. So when addressed, they both may nod in acceptance.
Different surnames signalling that they are not family. But Christopher and Melvin are close buddies who share close bond like a family.
And this mutual friendship, understanding and trust saw them claim the 2023 TMCC Chairman’s Prize honours at the Tampines course on July 9.
The golf competition was in a 4-ball stableford format.
But rivalry and battle were thrown to the winds – in fact submerged in the one-hour thunderstorm that delayed the tee-off – as 100 players fully enjoyed a round of golf in congenial conditions.
There was fun and laughter all round, all 25 flights were seen engaged in camaraderie and banter.
The surroundings were scenic; turquoise water embellished in lush greenery and the presence of different types of migratory birds added to the beauty of the pristine course.
Even when the last flight brought in the buggy at 7pm, there were friends waiting at the buggy bay to greet the four players.
Following a hearty golf, the participants were greeted with a sumptuous spread of delectable dishes, barbecue live stations and free flow of beer.
Novelty Prize Winners
Lady Captain Gillian Sim presented the prizes for Novelty games (Nearest To Pin).
Lucky Draw Winners
The lucky draw segment drew many “oohs” and “aahs” and louder cheers. Vice-Captain, Christopher Chiu presented 10 lucky draw prizes and the top prize of a 15-year-old The Dalmore Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky was won by Mr Kooi Cho Liang.

Club Captain Goh Hoon Pur presented prizes to the competition winners at the informal dinner. The pairing of Christopher and Melvin built on last year’s strong performance, scored a superb 49 points to clinch the Chairman’s Prize trophy.
It was certainly a day to remember for the participants who went home with many memories.
