And the heroes and heroines came from all walks of life, shaped by a series of events that lifted them to the winners’ stage.
Even those who claimed the minor placings felt like true winners on a night of glitz and glamour when the mood was pure celebratory and elation.
And the annual Champions Dinner and Prize Presentation event at the Tampines Course was given further credence and uplift with many General Committee members in attendance.
So Sunday, October 27 was a date and occasion to remember for the sporting fraternity of Tanah Merah Country Club, a club which always pushes the boundaries for sporting excellence.
Familiar names Christopher Chiu and Samir Bedi took the day’s honours for golf with their combined nett score of 64 in the pairs scramble competition among 20 flights.
The duo won an XXIO golf bag each.
Runners-up were Petra Jarosilova and Ricardo Portabella with 66 nett as they edged out David Ong and Tan T Kiang on countback.
Nearest the Pin prize winners were Penny Yap and Rudy Johnson (hole 4), Petra Jarosilova and Tan Swee Seng (hole 6), Gillian Sim and Yap Teck Seng (hole 14) and Dion Lim and Ramadas Naidu (hole 16).
There were 18 lucky draw prizes and the top prize of complimentary game for four guests at the Singapore Island Country Cub went to Chew See Yu.
Previously known as “Captains Day” the Champions’ Dinner & Annual Prize Presentation, the event also celebrated longtime committee member, Marketing Convenor Benny Tay’s 71st birthday.
The live band, Terry and Robyn, made emphatic emphasis of this celebration by playing the birthday song for the omnipresent Tay during the eight-course Chinese dinner.
Swimmers Darryl Chan (Swimmer of the Year) and Atticus Soh (Most Improved Swimmer) were also honoured among almost 40 winners to provide fitting tribute to the array of Champions.
